About 6 months before seeking treatment, I started to notice my shoulder and left arm becoming still over a 4 week period; after I had been lifting weights at home. Eventually, it became very difficult to lift my shoulder higher than parallel to the ground. It was very difficult to do work at my computer and difficult to fasten my bra! I was very frustrated and surprise to found out it was Frozen Shoulder Syndrome. I was always a very healthy person and took good care of myself so it was very frustrating not to have full health. I was mad at having a sports injury when I had always tried to be so careful when exercising. I saw my doctor, who didn’t really have any real suggestions other than physical therapy. I took Tylenol for pain but I could not take any NSAIDs because I am allergic to them, so I couldn’t reduce the inflammation. Tylenol would relieve some pain temporarily but wasn’t giving me any range of motion back in my shoulder/arm. I was getting depressed that this wouldn’t heal on its own and I did not want to do steroid injections.
I thought acupuncture might be a better option, so in 2010 I start coming to Natural Medicine Center. I had no prior experience with natural medicine so I did not know what to expect. I hoped to reduce the inflammation and hopefully get full range of motion back. My friends and family were supportive. The clinic had a friendly and welcoming staff - very professional and cared about your progress. At Natural Medicine Center I received acupuncture, herbal medicine and a nutrition guideline.
I had treatments 2-3 times a week for about 10 weeks. I took the natural herbs as well that Dr. Huang prescribed and adjusted my diet. I started to feel better after about 5-6 treatments; when I could see that I could move my shoulder a little bit more and was not having so much pain. I regained 100% mobility in my left shoulder and arm. I am pain free! It’s been so great to finally feel healthy again and be able to focus more effectively on my job and to exercise without pain.
