The tumor was the size of a 10 pound turkey. And, it had been in my neck for 11 years when I found Dr. Huang and Natural Medicine in Costa Mesa. A large part of the reason why I am alive today is because of Dr. Huang. The other reason why I am safe and healthy today is because of my belief in the power of prayer/meditation. I went to Dr. Huang to try and see if acupuncture could stop the tumor. The treatments were able to keep the mass from growing any larger, which bought me more time. In addition to arresting the growth of the tumor, the acupuncture had a positive effect on my overall health and energy.
So why did I let this condition get to this point? My reasons are something not everyone might agree with, but it was right for me. The risks were too great, according to the doctors. One doctor went so far as to say I might not survive the incision in my neck because the mass was situated below a major artery. I opted for waiting for there to be less of a risk involved. In the meantime, I kept up with Dr. Huang’s acupuncture treatments. It slowed the growth process way down and kept my energy levels high.
Then the tumor reached a critical turning point. It was ready to come out, with or without me. As strange as it was, I knew it was a blessing. That the time was right and everything would turn out alright. And, so I made the choice to go ahead with the surgery despite the risks. Just making that decision caused a great weight to be lifted off of. However, none of the doctors that we had seen were qualified to perform the surgery, because it was beyond their capability and too risky. So they transferred me to UCI Hospital, in the hopes one of the doctors there could perform the surgery.
Within 12 hours of making the decision to go ahead with having surgery, the most wonderful doctor I’ve ever met introduced himself to me. The first word out of his mouth wasn’t about the risks involved or that it was beyond his abilities. What he said to me was, “Oh yes, this is doable, nothing to it. It should take about 5 hours. Come see me tomorrow and we will get this taken care of for you.” My prayers had been answered. I found an ENT doctor who had the expertise and skill to safely remove the tumor. It was worth waiting for. Having faith and confidence in your doctor is primary to a full recovery.
