I was diagnosed with PCOS (Polycystic Ovarian Syndrome) 2 years ago and I have been struggling with acne and hormone problems for years. I had depression, fatigue, hair loss and my cycle was 19 days instead of 28 days. I had loss of sleep, weight loss, high testosterone (androgen) and an ovarian cyst burst. I was on antibiotics, bio-identical hormones, different natural remedies. I was prescribed hormone replacement, but it did not work for me. I also tried acne topical medications and a testosterone blocker. I was on birth control for 6 years. Afterwards, my body was out of whack. I had a little hope in the acne clearing up but I was discouraged about the PCOS. The acne was due to PCOS and it got worst when I got off the birth control. I was lethargic and stayed away from friends and events. At work, I was always tired and I also lost work due to ovarian cyst bursting. I was in and out of the hospital. I remember tears started welling up when she told me it may be a challenge to get pregnant and with some women, it can cause infertility altogether. Realizing I might not get to experience one of the most fulfilling experiences in life, I felt crushed and hopeless. I was put on Metformin and a couple months later, started gearing up to get on fertility medication (Clomid). After reading how these drugs tamper with hormones and the variable success rates/side effects, I decided I wanted to try a more natural approach first. I went in to see Dr. Huang and he seemed certain that I could get pregnant if I followed hes regimen strictly. I followed his diet plan, took the herbs prescribed, and did acupuncture twice a week. I found out I was pregnant after 2 months!
I continued the treatment until my second trimester to help alleviate morning sickness and help prevent a miscarriage (which is more common in women with PCOS). I had a wonderful and healthy pregnancy and even came back for a few sessions during the last few weeks of pregnancy to alleviate swelling (which helped a lot!).
