When I was in Kindergarten, my parents noticed my face and legs swell up from water retention. After visiting a doctor, they said I had childhood onset, minimal change nephrotic syndrome.

My mom, being the research-warrior that she is, decided to take me to Agape Natural Health, and commit to a natural medicine regime: very limited sugar and salt in my foods, juicing and clean foods, plus acupuncture and herbs. I was young and couldn’t swallow the herbs yet, so we got creative and ground them up with a mortar and pistol and mixed them into applesauce.

Six years ago, I found myself battling HBP (High Blood Pressure) due to overwhelming stress. I have been struggling with Systemic Sclerosis, also known as scleroderma, GERD (Gastroesophageal Reflux Disease), Anxiety, and Stress for about three years now. I was diagnosed on August 5, 2013 with Stage 4 Head, Neck and Throat Cancer. I was scared and worried. My condition basically kept me locked down at home on my couch and it was lonely. It kept me fatigued all the time with a dry mouth and limited me from doing cardio. It limited me from going out in the sun and kept me from the beach and riding my bike. I suffered with this condition for 1 year.

I had radiation to the throat area, chemotherapy for 5 weeks - 1 every week during 24 radiation treatments to the throat. The second round was 1 every 3 weeks for 6 months. I had a throat tube put in because I couldn’t breath when I went into the ER, and I was there for a month. The tracheostomy tube did not come out for 4 months because the tumor was wrapped around my esophagus. When they took the tube out and did another scan, they found that the cancer had spread to my lungs. They did a needle biopsy and found out that it was the same from my throat and that it had spread. It was a cancerous lung nodule 8mm that spread from my throat.

I had 6 rounds of chemotherapy for the lungs. I was also on medications for pain (morphine and hydrocodone) and Xanax for anxiety. I didn’t like any of it because the whole process of treatments made me miserable, and I had a lot of anxiety with the chemotherapy treatments.
I was always a believer in natural remedies and I read a lot about it first. I came to Agape Acupuncture on February 6, 2014 and found Dr. Huang to be knowledgeable and that they were really concerned about me and very supportive. I found the clinic to be fantastic with excellent customer service and a clean facility - sweet people over here, honest and reliable. I hoped to find healing of my cancer all the way naturally instead of with drugs. I started acupuncture treatments along with natural herbs and diet guidance.

After I started coming to Agape Acupuncture, I have been getting better everyday and it is promoting to heal the body naturally. Socially I can get out a little more and exercise more. On October 31, 2014, I started bleeding and then had testing done. I was diagnosed with Stage III Ovarian Cancer. I came here first for the bleeding. I knew I needed herbal medicine and acupuncture and on November 3rd, 2014, I started natural medicine treatments. Most people that know me know I do acupuncture and they also are into acupuncture. I believe in it. I used to do acupuncture; it’s good for relaxation stress release.

I had to bypass the fear that most people have and said “What do we do to fix it?” First they had to remove the growth. I had surgery on December 8th, 2014 and it was a hysterectomy. From the operation, I couldn’t do certain things, due to rebuilding myself to be able to lift and drive for a month or so. Then we had to do chemotherapy which lasted from the 3rd week of January, 2015 to May 13th, 2015. I chose the port chemo, which is the stronger one for my abdomen. Kaiser also prescribed to me stool softeners and nausea medication. I had 6 cycles each with 3 treatments of chemotherapy and then kept coming here for acupuncture 3 times a week. The acupuncture gives you that feeling of peace.

I am feeling good. Neighbors noticed how good I look and that I am strong. Chemo is very hard on the body. Everybody reacts differently. Chemotherapy breaks you down, so the acupuncture helped me from being broken down. Everybody said I look very good and that the natural medicine treatment has something to do with it. Nurses said it too. My body was strong enough to keep fighting. The acupuncture worked hand in hand with chemo and helped me balance the flow of energy to get you into that point.

The staff are all wonderful, fantastic and very caring and the clinic is well organized. I have referred my neighbor - her sister. I felt that it would help her. I always think that there are natural ways to take care of situations. I always thought to eat the right foods and you can keep yourself out of a lot of situations. The doctors also stressed diet for my condition. I encourage others to read some good information and give it a try. I’m always preaching it. Just got to believe. There’s always hope.
