Infertility is the term referring to the biological fact that a person is unable to conceive. It is a word that is also used to describe a woman who has frequent miscarriages and is unable to carry a baby to full term. Reproductive conditions and fertility issues are often treatable. The World Health Organization (WHO) provides this definition of infertility: “Infertility is the inability to conceive a child. A couple may be considered infertile if, after two years of regular sexual intercourse, without contraception, the woman has not become pregnant (and there is no other reason, such as breastfeeding or postpartum amenorrhoea). Primary infertility is infertility in a couple who have never had a child. Secondary infertility is failure to conceive following a previous pregnancy. Infertility may be caused by infection in the man or woman, but often there is no obvious underlying cause.”

In female fertility, the causes may include: PCOS (Polycystic Ovarian Syndrome), Interstitial Cystitis (IC), Endometriosis, Hormonal Disorder, Abnormal Periods, Menstrual Conditions, Anemia Damage to Fallopian Tubes, Cervical Disease, Abnormal Anatomy of Uterus, Hemorrhaging, Elevated FSH, Vulvodynia, Fibroid Tumors, Follicular Cysts, and Unexplained Infertility. If female infertility is suspected, several tests are routine such as a blood test to check hormone levels and an endometrial biopsy to check the lining of the uterus. Two additional tests may also be ordered - Hysterosalpingography (HSG) and Laparoscopy. In male sterility, the causes may include Sperm Conditions (Asthenospermia & Teratozoospermia), Erectile Dysfunction (ED), Low Sperm Count, and Male Hormone Imbalance. If male infertility is suspected, a semen analysis is performed. This test will evaluate the number and health of his sperm. A blood test may also be administered to check the level of testosterone and other male hormones.

When I first came for a consult with Dr. Huang, my husband and I had been praying and trying for a baby for two years. After a year of trying to conceive we consulted with a reproductive endocrinologist (RE) - who basically said I had a 1-2% chance of becoming pregnant naturally because I was 38 years old (at the time) and had not conceived up to that point. We had one IUI with the RE, which caused me to develop large cysts and postponed my regular menstrual cycle for several months. I began seeing a well known acupuncturist, who specialized in fertility at the same time as I began treatment with the RE. The IUI did not result in pregnancy; however, I did end up becoming pregnant naturally a few months later. I miscarried after 6 weeks. After that pregnancy, I had two more miscarriages within 6 months. I felt heartbroken and defeated but continued to have faith that God had a plan for us.

I began looking for other acupuncturists in the area because I did not feel the miscarriages were being addressed by the acupuncturist and treatment remained the same regardless of how many times I miscarried, I believe God lead me to the Natural Medicine website and as soon as I read that Dr. Huang was a Christian and read his beliefs, I made an appointment for a consult. My husband and I have always believed that we would have a child but did not know what path God wanted us to take. We also looked into adoption but were not ready to take that step. I never thought that it would take us nearly four years to be able to conceive again after our first miscarriage back in 2012. We were truly heartbroken amidst the hardship and everything we went through. Not knowing that it would literally take us this long, I began to feel frustrated with little hope. Around 2013 and 2014, we then decided to seek professional help by going to 2 different infertility clinics. After two attempts of IUI, tons of medications and injections, we felt it was just time to step back and take a break. I was tired! In the summer of 2015, I began to research alternative methods. While searching online, I came across several websites that offered “infertility acupuncture treatments”. I was a bit skeptical at first, but I went ahead and inquired about the treatment costs, etc. I stumbled across Dr. Huang’s website. What really captured my interest to pursue this even further was that this particular clinic was faith-based. I was drawn by the fact that his practice/professional work is his ministry! So, fast forward to the month of August 2015, we made an appointment to consult with Dr. Huang. I couldn’t help my tears when I was explaining to him what I’ve been through and how tough it’s been just to conceive and the worst part is, not actually knowing why as I’ve been classified as, “unexplained infertility”.

We immediately began treatment that same day and he gave us a run down about what type of foods to avoid, and that it would take about 3 months to prepare my body to conceive. At first, I thought, “seriously?” But we know that all we can do is just trust Dr. Huang’s recommendations. He also prescribed me some natural herbs to help with my blood and liver functions. The entire process takes a lot of time, patience and commitment. But the end result was definitely worth it. Nearly 5 months into the treatment, we found out early February that we’re pregnant and expecting our first child, a baby boy, due October 2016! It’s been almost a year since we began our acupuncture journey with Dr. Huang and have really enjoyed the entire process. We appreciate his prayers, Godly-advice and words of wisdom each time we meet. You’ll always see him happily smiling and full of energy!

“I have a second child on the way and I’m at 28 weeks now!”

I am 39 years old. At age 36, and with a 7 year-old daughter, I wanted a second child. With 2 unsuccessful rounds of IVF (In-Vitro Fertilization), I came to the Natural Medicine Center to receive acupuncture. We were trying to conceive for 3 years. My first conception I had a miscarriage 6 weeks later. One month later I conceived again and miscarried. All testing was normal but we still were not able to have a child. There were no reasons for my infertility and everything looked normal. I was offered IVFs and hormone injections by an infertility doctor, which did not help. The IVF treatments started May 2009 - January 2010 and were unsuccessful. It was very painful physically and emotionally, and it was financially draining. I had frustration of not being able to get pregnant. I had stress at work and was emotionally down when a friend told me acupuncture would help me.

I searched the internet, found the Agape Acupuncture, Inc., and began treatments for infertility on June 11, 2010. I was given acupuncture and herbal medicine. The treatments were not painful and very little money. I was 38 years old at the time and I had no expectations and no prior views of natural medicine. I just wanted to get pregnant and have my second child. I didn’t share it with my husband because he did not believe in natural medicine.

After a couple of months I was feeling better emotionally where I was very down previously. Miracle! I have a second child on the way and I’m at 28 weeks now! I’m very happy with the results. When I was diagnosed with PCOS (Polycystic Ovarian Syndrome), I was sad and knew it would be a difficult obstacle getting pregnant. My periods were irregular and I had weight gain. It was hard for me to loose weight due to the PCOS and a slower metabolism. My MD prescribed Clomid and Metformin. There were a lot of side effects and the Metformin gave me an upset stomach and nausea. I was also stressed and tired. Because I was not able to conceive easily, I also had an IUI (Intrauterine Insemination). Neither of these treatments were successful prior to coming here.

Two of mine friends came to the Agape Natural Health and they had positive results so they recommended me. I was not a firm believer in natural medicine but I was always interested in it and my friends encouraged me. I wanted to conceive and have a healthy natural pregnancy and a healthy body. After a few treatments I felt more energy and relaxed. I ate healthier and had fewer headaches. Dr. Huang changed my diet so I was more aware of eating healthier. My body improved! I came here a few times and then decided to try the IUI again after my body was stronger and I had a normal pregnancy. My friends and family are excited for us and he’s the first grandchild on both sides! The staff is warm, friendly and nice and the medical staff is warm and caring. Well, I’m back again to try to re-strengthen my body in hopes of adding a new child to our future! I would definitely refer people and I’ve mentioned it to others. I’m a believer more in the treatments at this clinic more than another clinic.
