Every time we went in, we had so many questions for Dr. Huang, and he was always so patient and kind in answering us. He even took phone calls (so many calls!), and always understood our concerns. Just over a month of acupuncture, taking herbs and eating the foods Dr. Huang suggested, her rash was fading and her ankles were normal. She took blood tests and her thyroid level was normal for the first time in a year! No medications were necessary. Her iron was also normal even after stopping iron supplements-just changes in diet and getting her system healthy with acupuncture and herbs. Her low white blood cell count showed that she was still fighting the virus, which was also apparent as her energy was still low, and so we continued treatment. She slowly got back into working out with volleyball, but had to take it easy. In two and a half months, she would be leaving to the university where she would play volleyball. My 17-year-old daughter is an accomplished athlete who competes at a high level. At 16 she started having some health issues. Her blood tests showed that she had hyperthyroidism. Doctors wanted to put her on medication that would ultimately force her to be on medication for the rest of her life. We knew she was too young and otherwise healthy to do that, so we took her to a natural doctor who put her on vitamins to help her health improve.
About a year later, she lost a small patch of hair and we went back to the natural doctor to see what might have caused that. He took blood tests again and her thyroid was still hyper. Also her iron was low and he said she was anemic. She was often tired, but we thought it was from all the volleyball training. So she started taking iron to see if that would improve things. Strangely, her cholesterol was also high (over 200) even though she was practically a vegetarian. And her tonsils were always swollen.
After a few weeks on the iron, she came home from a volleyball tournament with swollen ankles. She thought she had double sprained ankles. Within a couple days, a dark red rash showed up on her ankles and spread up her legs to her knees. We took her to a dermatologist and he said it looked like an autoimmune response. At that point, she was also feeling really weak and she could barely walk with her swollen ankles. My husband researched her symptoms and we realized there was no known Western cure for what she was experiencing. There was only thyroid medication and steroids to reduce the symptoms, but nothing to actually heal her. So we looked up non-Western approaches to treating an autoimmune disorder, and we found Dr. Huang.
We went in scared and confused, watching our strong, healthy daughter in such a weak state. Dr. Huang seemed so confident that he could help her. Watching my daughter go through this brought on stress like I'd never felt before. I couldn't eat. I lost 10 pounds and ended up getting an ulcer. The Oncologist told me I had CIN1 (vaginal cancer cells) and said to come back in 6 months. Then after that time if it had advanced to the CIN2 stage, then they would do a laser procedure that only took three seconds but was expensive and very painful so anesthesia and hospitalization is required. Being very disappointed with the lack of any helpful information I decided to do something about it myself.
A few months later at the car wash I saw their sign saying Acupuncture and Natural Medicine. I went in and enrolled on the spot. Dr. Kevin Huang said the herb was fine but not enough. He started treating me very aggressively to help strengthen the immune system.

4-5 years ago, I was diagnosed with the Epstein Barr Virus (EBV) and Lupus and I suffered the whole time. In 2000, I had a vaginal hysterectomy and a platelet issue and almost died. In 2004, I came down with a kidney infection and almost died and went home with a PICC (Peripherally Inserted Central Catheter) line inserted through a vein in the arm for 2 weeks. I suffered from chronic fatigue, severe heart pain, bone pain with severe inflammation, severe lower back pain, and weight gain. I couldn't do anything and I lived on the couch. It was horrible and I thought that I was dying. I also had mononucleosis at the same time. I couldn't use my muscles to walk or move. I had so much swelling. Everything slowed down.
I sought the help of a cardiologist, bone doctor and went to a fibromyalgia clinic and also to UCLA. I took every drug known to man including Provastatin, Prilosec, Amiloride, Hydrochlorothiazide, Hectorol, and I had IV treatments. They gave me diabetes medication and had me drinking calcium. They were horrible. I had the shakes and low blood pressure. I had migraines, I couldn't see, and I was getting weaker plus having bone pain. As a result of all this, I ended up on Nitroglycerin tabs. I thought I was having complications from all the medications while getting worse. I was told there was no cure for me, but only manage me.
On March 10, 2011, I came to see Dr. Kevin Huang at Agape Acupuncture and go the natural alternative way so that I could at least function. I made this decision the day I went to UCLA and a liver specialist said "You have a fatty liver". I wanted relief for my autoimmune condition Lupus and my husband was a bit skeptical that no one could help me, but my friends and family were supportive. When I came here, the clinic was very peaceful. I felt there is a mission here - God's mission. I was treated with acupuncture and herbs and I love it. It's gentle.
