Patient CJ came into Agape Natural Health seeking for treatment to relieve his back pain and sciatic nerve pain due to two bulging discs, a condition in which the inner portion of the intervertebral disc that provides shock-absorbing cushion begins to protrude from the outer wall of the disc, in his lumbar region. CJ was experiencing lower back pains that radiated down to the back of his left leg. Unknown to his condition, he went to his primary care orthopedic doctor to get his back checked out. After performing a magnetic resonance imaging (MRI), his orthopedic physician confirmed that CJ has two bulging discs in his lumbar region. CJ developed his condition as a contractor that does continuous heavy lifting of objects that puts strains to his body. Over time and with age, the intervertebral discs begins to wear and tear and starts to dehydrate, and the cartilage stiffens that causes the disc to bulge and put pressure on the surrounding nerve root. His orthopedic physician recommended taking nonprescription pain medication to alleviate the pain and rest to reduce the amount of stress that is put on the spinal cord to allow the bulging disc to decrease and to prevent further compression to the spinal nerve. A bulging disc takes about six weeks to recover with limited posture movements; however, in some cases it can take longer. In his early sixties and a person with diabetes with a high level of glucose and poor blood circulation, CJ was prone to slower healing. Therefore, it would take longer to recover from bulging discs compared to a non-diabetic individual.
After a week of suffering from back and leg pains, CJ was referred to Agape Natural Health by a friend who was troubled about his health. On June 20, 2017, CJ came in for a consultation to discuss his health concerns to Dr. Huang - how his bulging discs has affected his job performance, unable to complete tasks such as moving and lifting, his personal life of not being able to sleep at night, how walking has become challenging that prevented him from getting his daily exercise. The back pain and sciatic nerve were intolerable that over the counter pain medications weren’t helping him get any better. Dr. Huang recommends that he does a combination of acupuncture treatment and natural herbal medicine to restore his balance and promote healing. CJ decided to proceed with the acupuncture treatments and natural herbs right away. CJ followed Dr. Huang’s recommendation, and within the first week of treatment, his back pain was 25-30% better from the initial day he came into Agape Natural Health. As CJ continued his treatment program, his back pain lessened and was 50-60% better just after four acupuncture treatments. When I fist came to Agape Acupuncture, Inc. I had been battling with extreme pain due to being diagnosed with bulging discs in my back, shoulder injuries, ulnar nerve problems to my elbows and carpal tunnel. I had surgery on my right shoulder with not much success I was told I needed surgery to my left shoulder, carpal tunnel surgery to both wrists and possible back surgery. I was having extreme pain where I was taking medication for pain, nerve pain pills, sleeping pills, anti-inflammatory meds, etc. I had difficulty walking, due to sciatic nerve pain which radiated down to my calf. I walked with a limp with my left foot turned out. The only way I was somewhat comfortable walking was with Z-coil shoes, which were shoes that had a spring in them that helped to absorb the impact. I could not sit for very long. I could not let anyone touch me as it was extremely painful. I had such extreme fatigue I could not get out of bed for very long without being exhausted again. I was not able to work for 5 years I wasn't able to live a normal life. I went through treatment with western medicine doctors with very little to no relief.
I was at my wits end and looking for other options for treatment, not wanting to go through another surgery. I had heard about acupuncture and people having good success. My husband researched to find an acupuncture doctor and found Dr. Huang. After reviewing Dr. Huang's website and seeing Dr. Huang was a believer in Christ and didn't just do acupuncture but natural medicine, we were excited. We had always believed in natural medicine and knew it worked.
I started coming to Dr. Huang in 2007 and found out I had fibromyalgia, Epstein Bar and a hormone imbalance. I also realized I had damaged my liver due to all the pain meds. After a few months of treatment with Dr. Huang I was able to start reducing my pain meds. Several months later I was able to sit and walk without much pain. I advised my orthopedic doctor what I was doing and he referred me to a pain management doctor for help in getting off the pain meds. I am a strong believer in Jesus Christ and knew with God's help I could get off the pain meds. Praise God He helped me to do just that!
