Since last year I had been feeling some really weird and unexplained symptoms that I thought I was the only one on the planet who had this. I had gone to about 5 different doctors including a holistic nutritional response testing woman who was only able to put a name to my bizarre and painful symptoms, hyperthyroidism, and started to give me some natural supplements to help me naturally rid of this and allow my body to naturally heal itself. I totally believe that the body can naturally heal itself, hence the reason I chose a holistic person rather than go to a doctor and have him prescribe thyroid medication, but unless the holistic doctor knows really what they are doing, even natural supplements can be dangerous and have side effects. The natural supplements she was giving me were waking up my hyperthyroidism and I was having symptoms every third day compared to every third week, and the last day of my visit in her office, I had a minor seizure and decided to never go to her again.

My symptoms included: Heart rate at 160 beats per minute while lying down, overheating and sensitive to changing temperatures, sweating, very difficult to breath, pupils dilated, pale face, extreme dry mouth with no saliva at all, nauseous for the entirety of my episodes (which last from 18 hours to 48 hours of no sleep and all of these symptoms, I have to force myself to eat some cold and wet fruit or cereal with milk, otherwise nothing else is easily swallowed without choking) very dizzy and wanting to faint all the time, extreme body ache within an hour of episode starting, muscles tensing up from head to toes, grinding down on my jaws, nervousness, jumpiness, tremors to the point of my body vibrating if one were to hug me they would feel it, my teeth chattering from the tremors and not feeling cold, my body temperature dropping to about 93-94 degrees even if my skin is hot to the touch and I'm sweating profusely, extremely high and overly exaggerated libido to the point of it not being able to arrive to the point of satisfaction... for up to 7 hours of painful swelling to my genital area if I don't do something about it, and nothing I do will bring it there because it's so swollen it's numb, which is a very frustrating and painful thing to have to go through for 18-48 hours. When I would come down from an episode, I would have a hard time breathing as the goiter would swell in my throat and I could barely breathe. My lungs felt exhausted and they would barely expand to allow me to breathe.  After going to 5 doctors, urgent care, etc., doing blood work, urine testing, ECG. and nothing coming up on the tests, always normal. So imagine my frustrations, that no doctor I've seen has any idea of what is wrong with me.

I was on the brink of going to an endocrinologist, even after the doctors gave me a thyroid blood panel test and said it was normal, I was desperate after a holistic person almost killed me. I went online after returning home from my seizure in her office and started to pray to God, begging him to help me get better and help me find someone qualified to help me, this was on a Saturday. I googled many times and up popped up Natural Medicine OC. I read as many testimonials that my energy would allow me to, because I was now coming down from my episode and usually slept for 2 days, and I started to cry and told my husband that I was going there.  This was my answer, this was going to save my life.  He saw it was in OC and made mention that it was an hour drive, and I said to him, "I am willing to drive across the world if it means I will never have this again."  He agreed and handed me my phone to make the call (even making a call was a huge task for me). When I did, the clinic was already closed, so I left a message and on Monday they returned my call and scheduled me for my free consultation. On my first appointment, my husband had to almost carry me in the clinic as I could barely walk or breathe and I was in tears. I talked to Dr. Huang with uncontrollable tears, as he and his entire staff were and are very compassionate and kind. After my free consultation and a 20 minute acupuncture session, I walked out of his office smiling, feeling great and literally skipping to my car towards my husband and my dogs. My husband's jaw dropped to the ground.

I was diagnosed with hyperthyroidism - Grave's Disease around 2 years ago. Initially, I feared that my illness would negatively change the quality of the rest of my life. I had the choice to get iodine treatment to kill my thyroid, get surgery, or take medication for a year or so and wait for improvement For the last option, there was always the chance that my illness could return, but with any of the options, I would most probably have to be on medication for the rest of my life. My initial choice was to get iodine treatment, but my parents' suggested we give the drug medications a chance before permanently removing my thyroid.

The illness caused heart palpitations and trembling in my muscles. I also felt hot even in cold environments and I lost a lot of weight and had shortness of breath. Along with these symptoms, I sometimes felt anxiety and was extremely fatigued most of the time. These symptoms definitely made it difficult to do many activities, especially since I was tired most of the time. My grades and my social life suffered because tasks took me longer to complete and I couldn't perform to the best of my ability. My illness also kept me from being active in sports because of heart palpitations and also limited my ability to play piano and sing because my hands and voice would tremble badly.

As prescribed by modern medicine, I took methimazole in varying dosages depending on my blood test results, and Atenolol for a short time to normalize my heartbeat. The possible side effects were itching, liver problems and decreased white blood cell count right before I decided to come to the Natural Medicine Center, the symptoms of my hyperthyroidism had been getting worse and we had come to the conclusion that the drug medications were no longer working. My mom had always suggested that we check out the Natural Medicine Center, but at first I was skeptical. However, since my condition only seemed to be getting worse, I decided to finally check out the Center with my Mom as a last resort before finally getting iodine treatment. I was still a little bit skeptical so I came in not really expecting much, but I did hope that the treatments would offer more definite healing than the treatments modern medicine offered.

I received acupuncture and herbal medicine as well as dietary guidelines. Since I was still attending college at UCLA, I got acupuncture every other week and weekly when I could. The acupuncture was mostly painless and the herbs were easy to take. After about 2 weeks, I began to feel less fatigued and have more energy. My anxiety and nausea also started to subside and I was able to perform at school and function at a higher level. The recovery has definitely allowed me to work harder at my school work and spend more time with my friends as I regained my energy and health. The treatments have drastically improved the quality of my life and shown me new ways that God can work. After four months, which is the end of my treatments at the Natural Medicine Center, my blood test levels are all in the normal range and I was able to get off my drug medications! Was able to experience true healing without having to permanently remove my thyroid or take medications for the rest of my life! My faith and the faith of my family have significantly grown from coming to this clinic and witnessing God's healing power here firsthand.

The staff is always friendly and welcoming. Their smiling faces and their work in making each treatment as comfortable as possible truly made the experience a pleasant one. Sherry and Dr. Huang were very knowledgeable and kind. They always made sure to answer any questions we had and it was obvious that they cared not only about my medical condition, but genuinely cared for me and my Mom. My 17-year-old daughter is an accomplished athlete who competes at a high level. At 16 she started having some health issues. Her blood tests showed that she had hyperthyroidism. Doctors wanted to put her on medication that would ultimately force her to be on medication for the rest of her life. We knew she was too young and otherwise healthy to do that, so we took her to a natural doctor who put her on vitamins to help her health improve.

About a year later, she lost a small patch of hair and we went back to the natural doctor to see what might have caused that. He took blood tests again and her thyroid was still hyper. Also her iron was low and he said she was anemic. She was often tired, but we thought it was from all the volleyball training. So she started taking iron to see if that would improve things. Strangely, her cholesterol was also high (over 200) even though she was practically a vegetarian. And her tonsils were always swollen.

After a few weeks on the iron, she came home from a volleyball tournament with swollen ankles. She thought she had double sprained ankles. Within a couple days, a dark red rash showed up on her ankles and spread up her legs to her knees. We took her to a dermatologist and he said it looked like an autoimmune response. At that point, she was also feeling really weak and she could barely walk with her swollen ankles. My husband researched her symptoms and we realized there was no known Western cure for what she was experiencing. There was only thyroid medication and steroids to reduce the symptoms, but nothing to actually heal her. So we looked up non-Western approaches to treating an autoimmune disorder, and we found Dr. Huang.

We went in scared and confused, watching our strong, healthy daughter in such a weak state. Dr. Huang seemed so confident that he could help her. He believed she had a virus (probably Epstein Bar) and her body had been fighting it since she first started not feeling well a year before. That was why her tonsils were always swollen. The virus finally took over and the autoimmune response was her immune system over-fighting until it actually attacked her own body.

In the beginning of treatment, her hands also started to swell and the rash looked like it was tying to come through on her arms, but acupuncture seemed to keep it from breaking out the way her legs did. She remained really weak the first couple weeks, but acupuncture did stabilize her. Every time we went in, we had so many questions for Dr. Huang, and he was always so patient and kind in answering us. He even took phone calls (so many calls!), and always understood our concerns.

Just over a month of acupuncture, taking herbs and eating the foods Dr. Huang suggested, her rash was fading and her ankles were normal. She took blood tests and her thyroid level was normal for the first time in a year! No medications were necessary. Her iron was also normal even after stopping iron supplements-just changes in diet and getting her system healthy with acupuncture and herbs. Her low white blood cell count showed that she was still fighting the virus, which was also apparent as her energy was still low, and so we continued treatment. She slowly got back into working out with volleyball, but had to take it easy. In two and a half months, she would be leaving to the university where she would play volleyball. I was afraid she would need more time to heal after all her body had been going through, but Dr. Huang believed he could get her healthy by then.

Her next blood test was another month later, and at that point her cholesterol was down to
147. It went down over 50 points even after Dr. Huang had her add organic beef to her diet to help her iron. I asked him how it could be over 200 when she was practically a vegetarian and yet drop so much when she started eating beef. Dr. Huang explained that acupuncture and herbs were helping her liver function properly, which is a greater factor in cholesterol than just diet. The fact that my daughter was feeling better told me acupuncture was working, but seeing the blood tests was proof that it was really healing her inside. The patch of hair she had lost also started growing back, and her tonsils were getting smaller than they'd been in a year.

She had a couple set backs along the way, but Dr. Huang was always there to help her through. She continued getting stronger and after almost four months of seeing Dr. Huang, she was well-just in time to go off to USC where she is playing volleyball. She is fully back to playing and feels as strong as she was before she got sick.

Watching my daughter go through this brought on stress like I'd never felt before. I couldn't eat. I lost 10 pounds and ended up getting an ulcer. My digestive system was a mess and that led to hemorrhoids that wouldn't heal. I knew that if Dr. Huang could heal what my daughter had just gone through, he could heal me. And he did with acupuncture and herbs, I also got better.
