When I was in Kindergarten, my parents noticed my face and legs swell up from water retention. After visiting a doctor, they said I had childhood onset, minimal change nephrotic syndrome.

My mom, being the research-warrior that she is, decided to take me to Agape Natural Health, and commit to a natural medicine regime: very limited sugar and salt in my foods, juicing and clean foods, plus acupuncture and herbs. I was young and couldn’t swallow the herbs yet, so we got creative and ground them up with a mortar and pistol and mixed them into applesauce.

Six years ago, I found myself battling HBP (High Blood Pressure) due to overwhelming stress. Then, to my devastation, shock, and horror, about three years ago, I received the diagnosis of Multiple Sclerosis—a progressive autoimmune disorder where my immune system attacks my central nervous system, causing lesions. Neurologists informed me that I had multiple lesions on my brain. The left side of my body became weak to the point where I couldn’t walk. I have been struggling with Systemic Sclerosis, also known as scleroderma, GERD (Gastroesophageal Reflux Disease), Anxiety, and Stress for about three years now. Systemic Sclerosis, an autoimmune disease, has particularly affected me as it causes the body to attack itself. In my case, inflammation of the esophagus, stomach pain, and constant heartburn.

While I've experienced minor GERD since September 2017, it worsened significantly three years ago. Early in the year (2017) I started my acupuncture treatment with Dr. Huang as I wanted to get treatment for Diabetes. After acupuncture sessions (from January to March); the blood test results showed diminution on the Glucose readings from 120 (average readings); to the 100 mg/dl; without the need of any medication.

I first started treating with Dr. Huang due to multiple injuries including back, shoulders, carpal tunnel, ulner nerve injuries, Epstein-Barr and fibromyalgia. I was in extreme pain, could barely walk and was unable to work for a couple of years. No western medicine dr had helped including surgery. The only thing the doctors did was prescribe pain meds, nerve meds, anti-inflammatories and sleeping pills and wanted to do more surgery. 5 Star Review by V.B., Yorba Linda, California:  I came to Agape Acupuncture (literally in tears) from a bout of insomnia where I would wake up around 2 AM or earlier and not be able to get back to sleep. As a mother of two little ones this was very difficult and was taking a great toll mentally and physically. I was experiencing extreme fatigue and brain fog. I had already been diagnosed previously with adrenal fatigue the prior year and am on a specific detox/nutrition program, but the insomnia is a whole new beast. I’m a firm believer in natural medicine, herbs, and food as medicine but it takes a skilled healer(s)  to apply these with good results. Plus everyone’s body is unique.

Dr. Huang ran a simple diagnostic and was not surprised by the symptoms I was having based on the test results. Various organ systems were way out of balance. He prescribed a treatment plan and was quite confident that it could be of great help but would take time.

I am three months into my treatment plan with acupuncture and can say my sleep has improved 80% and keeps on improving. Ironically, I often fall asleep during a treatment as they are so relaxing! The rooms are very clean and calming.  I still hit a few bumps in the road, but those days are becoming fewer so that tells me healing is occurring. Adrenal fatigue doesn’t happen overnight, so I don’t expect overnight healing.

You can tell Dr. Huang cares a great deal for his patients as does his staff.  I believe Dr. Huang and Agape Acupuncture were an answer to prayer in my healing journey. He is Christian and gives God the glory for healing. He uses the wisdom of Eastern Medicine to treat the whole body.

I had to put it on like a t-shirt or twist it around like a pre-teenage girl to the front! Thank God for this Man, very gentle very assuring, thinks he can cure me from diabetes, thyroid, and back pain, I’m willing to give him a chance, price but my health is not negotiable! and since I have been paying the Chiro for so long, what a waste of money that turned out to be!! Only thing is… every time I get acupuncture, I also get my period, does this happen to anyone else? I was not due for another 2 weeks!! This would be the only negative!!

5 Star Review by Debbie K., Tustin, California: I cannot say enough of good things about this center.   The staff is corteous and the place is clean.  Dr. Kevin has helped me a lot in the last 10 years.  I have had health problems where I went to Western medical doctor and he or she could only just do so much.  Then, I go to this center and Dr. Kevin helped me further with pain, injury, and internal system problems.

About 10 years ago, I had a tennis elbow.  A simple problem, right?  Nah!  I went to a Western medical doctor and was given pain killers and muscle relaxers.  It only temporarily relieved the pain but the problem got worse that I could not sleep at night.  I went to a physical therapy and was given a warm ultra sound and massage.  After months, the problem didn’t go away and I was more sleep deprived.  It became so bad that I could not open a water bottle.  I decided to bite the bullet and spent a lot of money (since Western Medical insurance won’t pay) and after 20 acu treatments this problem disappeared until today.

Then, I had a problem with digestion and had so much stomach acids produced inside.  A western doctor did a test and told me about this.  He gave me drugs to reduce the production of acid.  Only when I took the drug that it worked.  If I stopped the drug, the problem came back.  I don’t want to take drug every day because it is bad for my kidney and liver.  So I asked Dr. Kevin for herb and acupuncture treatment.  I had about 12 weeks of treatment and the problem disappeared. I don’t have to take the drugs again.

Now, moving forward to June 2012, I had a major knee injury.  I broke my knee cap into 2.  I had a major surgery where an orthopedic surgeon put it together with 4 screws.  I had about 6 months of physical therapy.  The pt helped a lot but I still have a lot of pain 6 months after the surgery.  When the weather got cold I suffer.  When I walked too far, my knee was in pain and stiff.  I was not able to walk like a normal people and was afraid that people will run me over when I am in the crowd because I walked to slow.  I walked with a cane.  Orthopedic released me from his care of treatment but my knee was still not recovered completely.  Maybe he thought that eventually it would recover.   My knee was still swollen big from the scar tissues of the injury.   I decided to take my own health problem into my own hands and again bite the bullet to spend a lot of money to have acupuncture treatments and herbs.  After about 10 acu treatments, I didn’t have to walk with a cane anymore.   The pain was gone.  The swelling and bumps on my knee reduced.    I walk normal now and not afraid to face the crowd.  Although I still have some left over scar tissues and still need to have more treatments and still in treatments.  It was a major injury after all.   But week by week, my knee improved.  My knee may not go back to normal ever again but I don’t have any pain.

The herbs work if they are taken regularly.  It is not like western drugs that you take pills and the pain is gone (but it will come back again).  The herbs helped for our own body to heal naturally from the inside.  I take herbs for my knee and I believe that the herbs that I took regularly for 3 months helped me to break down the scar tissues around my knee so the pain and swelling eventually are gone.  The effect was not immediate but it was over time. The process of healing is slow with acupuncture and herbs but I learned that the healing stayed more permanently than using drugs. There are other female internal system problems that Dr. Kevin helped me but I don’t feel comfortable discussing the details.

I was already vegan before I walked into this clinic.  It was a coincidence that he recommends a vegan diet for his patients while in treatments.  I like this place more because of it.  He only recommends the vegan diet while patients are in treatment so it is not so bad.  He did recommend ‘no coffee’ for me.  I reduced drinking a lot of coffee anddo feel better.  Although I love coffee but I tried to listen to him.  Coffeecan be bad, too, I guess.  We are what we eat and if we want to be healthy I guess we need to put the healthy stuff inside.
