When I was in Kindergarten, my parents noticed my face and legs swell up from water retention. After visiting a doctor, they said I had childhood onset, minimal change nephrotic syndrome.

My mom, being the research-warrior that she is, decided to take me to Agape Natural Health, and commit to a natural medicine regime: very limited sugar and salt in my foods, juicing and clean foods, plus acupuncture and herbs. I was young and couldn’t swallow the herbs yet, so we got creative and ground them up with a mortar and pistol and mixed them into applesauce.

Six years ago, I found myself battling HBP (High Blood Pressure) due to overwhelming stress. Then, to my devastation, shock, and horror, about three years ago, I received the diagnosis of Multiple Sclerosis—a progressive autoimmune disorder where my immune system attacks my central nervous system, causing lesions. I have been struggling with Systemic Sclerosis, also known as scleroderma, GERD (Gastroesophageal Reflux Disease), Anxiety, and Stress for about three years now. About 6 months before seeking treatment, I started to notice my shoulder and left arm becoming still over a 4 week period; after I had been lifting weights at home. Eventually, it became very difficult to lift my shoulder higher than parallel to the ground. It was very difficult to do work at my computer and difficult to fasten my bra! I was very frustrated and surprise to found out it was Frozen Shoulder Syndrome. I was always a very healthy person and took good care of myself so it was very frustrating not to have full health. I was mad at having a sports injury when I had always tried to be so careful when exercising. I saw my doctor, who didn’t really have any real suggestions other than physical therapy. I took Tylenol for pain but I could not take any NSAIDs because I am allergic to them, so I couldn’t reduce the inflammation. Tylenol would relieve some pain temporarily but wasn’t giving me any range of motion back in my shoulder/arm. I was getting depressed that this wouldn’t heal on its own and I did not want to do steroid injections.

I thought acupuncture might be a better option, so in 2010 I start coming to Natural Medicine Center.
