When I was in Kindergarten, my parents noticed my face and legs swell up from water retention. After visiting a doctor, they said I had childhood onset, minimal change nephrotic syndrome.

My mom, being the research-warrior that she is, decided to take me to Agape Natural Health, and commit to a natural medicine regime: very limited sugar and salt in my foods, juicing and clean foods, plus acupuncture and herbs. I was young and couldn’t swallow the herbs yet, so we got creative and ground them up with a mortar and pistol and mixed them into applesauce.

What is Ulcerative Colitis?

Ulcerative colitis (UC) is an autoimmune disease that causes inflammation and ulceration to the inner lining of the colon (large intestine) and rectum. It is a chronic disease, also known as inflammatory bowel disease (IBD) that has similar symptoms to Crohn’s disease but only occurs in the colon. Due to abnormal responses by the body’s immune system, it produces irritation to the inner lining of the colon, causing prolonged, lasting inflammation that ultimately leads to ulceration. Ulcerative colitis does not occur suddenly in an individual; the symptoms are developed over time and causes individuals to have flare-ups intermittently. A continuous inflammation of the lining of the colon may increase the chances of developing colon cancer.

There is no cure for ulcerative colitis. Ulcerative colitis is treated with multiple drugs or surgery. Doctors would prescribe UC patients with an anti-inflammatory drug to reduce the inflammation, immune system suppressor to suppresses the WBC response to prevent inflammation, and other drugs such as antibiotics, anti-diarrheal medication, pain reliever, and iron supplements to aid in the symptoms UC has caused in the colon. However, not all drugs will work for every individual, and depending on the severity, surgery is required. There are multiple ways surgery can be performed for patients with UC. Surgery can consist of removing part or the entire colon (large intestine and rectum) and reconstruction the small intestine forming a J-pouch to collect stools that are attached to the anus or create an opening in the abdominal for stool to be released.

I recommend Dr. Huang and Dr. Yeh. They are professional, friendly and caring. I researched many places and ended up coming here because they have a good reputation in the area and are known for their medical expertise. I recovered quicker than expected and after just 1 month of following their directions on diet, lifestyle and taking herbs and getting acupuncture treatments, my elevated liver enzymes and high cholesterol and high triglycerides are normal. MIGRAINES HEADACHES | Saved from a lifetime of Headaches!

“I suffered from a lifetime of headaches and saw 15 medical doctors with no success.”

At 14 years of age, I started getting migraine headaches. At that time, I really did not understand - I just knew I had pain. I had family members who also suffered from this: my mother, her sister, my maternal grandmother, and on my father’s side two of his sisters. I experienced a little halo before my eyes, as it progressed a little flash of light and then I would lose my peripheral vision. The headaches affected everything, and it got to the point I was bed ridden. When my migraines come on, I would have to seclude myself in a dark room (no light) and certain odors made it worse. I saw a Neurologist who prescribed shots and prescription drugs such as Imitrex, a muscle relaxer, medication for nausea and a few others ones. I also had biofeedback therapy. From 1988 to 2011 the treatments just treated the symptoms and not the problem. I suffered from a lifetime of headaches and saw 15 medical doctors with no success.

I was looking for something other than what I was having to take - something that worked with no aftermath. On June 11, 2012 I started acupuncture, herbs and dietary guidelines with Dr. Kevin Huang at Agape Acupuncture, Inc. The office is different but educational. It is not your customary doctor office. I really did not understand natural medicine and I was uneducated about it so I really did not have any expectations. The treatments are customized for each patient and caters to the person, body and lifestyle. My friends and family were skeptical at first and now they are supportive. I have had at least 3 relatives come here for other ailments.

After a couple weeks I had more energy and I just felt better in general. In six months I have only had three headaches which were induced by coast to coast air travel. Less time being ill = less time off from work and more time with my family, and I'm in a better mood. I have increased energy and an improved quality of life. Everyone at the office is always pleasant, helpful and easy to talk to. They are very knowledgeable and take the time to explain how natural medicine works and the effects. CROHN’S DISEASE | My Son's Story

“Once natural medicine began, he started to improve day by day and within weeks he had gained back all the weight he had lost (30-35 lbs)! By December 2009 he was off all medicine drugs and has been symptom free (healed from Crohn’s Disease) since 2009!... He’s back to normal and has been for 4 years now!”

In January 2009, my son began to vomit all meals and began to have stomach aches and pains. He was diagnosed with Crohn’s Disease in March 2009. I never even knew what Crohn’s Disease was. I was shocked anyone in my family even had a disease. We were always so healthy. No one in our family was ever sick from anything before this, but that was always because my mom (his grandmother) always fed the family fresh organic foods and plenty or vitamins. When he started getting stomach aches, I always noticed at dinner time when he would stop mid-meal, not move, and trying to will away his stomach pain. He became increasingly unable to eat. He ate less and less and less. He was increasingly angry and short-tempered. This illness not only limited his food but it affected his relationship with the family negatively. The Intestinal Doctor says he would have this disease for the rest of his life and be on these drugs for years; that there was no cure but we could manage the disease.

My son was so sick and because he’d lost so much weight, he looked malnourished. He started taking the steroids and that decreased the inflammation in his small intestine and he was so happy that he could eat, that he sat down and ate raw vegetables but then he saw the pizza everyone else was eating. He had been so famished that he dove right into the pizza and that night he suffered from the worst most severe stomachache he had ever had! We rushed him to the hospital where they diagnosed him with a bowel obstruction. His small intestines had inflamed and completely shut down. So they put him on a much greater dosage of steroids and morphine for the pain. After the hospital increased his dosage, his legs became so weak that he went down in P.E. It scared the doctor so bad that he weaned him off of them 10 mg/day until he was at zero. We wouldn’t do their treatments. We just went there to get diagnosed but it took so long he lost 15 lbs. Once he gave in to take their drugs, he ate like a starving person and ended up in the hospital with a bowel obstruction.

Once released from the hospital we came to see Dr. Huang at Agape Acupuncture where he had acupuncture 3 times a week, took herbal supplements and changed his diet. He cut out all processed foods, ate more healthy and began to gain his weight back. He became a happy boy. We weaned him off the steroids and other medicine that modern medicine told us he’d be on for years. They even wanted to put him on Leukemia medication and I didn’t want to destroy his liver by medicating his intestines that way. I send every sick person I know to Dr. Kevin Huang because I know the benefits. I used to come to the Saturday classes when Dr. Huang held them. I loved the classes. They made the body so comprehensible. I was a firm believer in natural medicine but because of ignorance I had no views. I never knew there were alternatives or I would’ve come here in 1987, when I needed help with a horrible skin condition after getting out of the hospital for a terrible infection. Change your diet, take supplements, drink tea and get acupuncture. My son was healed because he no longer eats the nasty processed foods that gave him Crohn’s Disease in the first place. He’s back to normal and has been for 4 years now! He’s made friends and is in college now. My son became “happy” once he started getting better. Lack of nutrition had affected his brain function and he was angry all the time. The staff is wonderful, kind caring people who recognize you and call you by your first name. They’re knowledgeable, helpful, kind, always smiling and non-judgmental. I wasn’t sure what to expect because modern medicine said there was no cure but that was because they didn’t know what caused it. I just knew that Dr. Kevin Huang would know what to do and what to tell us and that his “only” chance, besides praying 24-7, was coming to natural medicine and be treated.

I feel 1000% happy! I wish I could talk to thousands of other Crohn’s patient mothers. I would refer everyone who has a “supposed” disease because it works and I have referred dozens of people. I came to Agape acupuncture in April 2013 after years of suffering with a weak immune system and finally being told by my physician that my immune system was simply weakened and that there was really nothing they could do about it.  I have dealt with a weak immune system for most of my life, suffering from colds and sinus infections as far back as I can remember, but this time it was much more serious.  I had been sick for over 3 months and had lost approximately 30 lbs.  I had a trip planned to Rwanda scheduled for May 24, 2013, but could not receive the recommended immunizations needed because I was too sick and on antibiotics. Dr. Kevin brought me in and looked over my medical records and asked many questions. He determined that my physicians’ were correct, but in stark contrast to my current physicians he was sure I could be healed.  With great confidence he informed me that God was going to heal me and that I would be able to go on the trip to Rwanda.  He prayed for me, which gave me great confidence and I began a treatment which included diet changes, herbal medicine regime and acupuncture treatment.  Within two weeks I was already seeing improved health, and in a couple of months I was on my way to Rwanda.  

Since my twenties I have had high cholesterol and for the past 2 years my physician prescribed cholesterol medicine because my cholesterol had reached dangerous levels at 317 mg/dl.  When I started my treatment with Dr. Kevin I stopped my cholesterol medicine.  After 5 months of treatment I had a blood test and the results were absolutely amazing; my cholesterol levels had dropped to 177.  I am 40 years old and have not had this low of a reading since I was 20 years old and in the best shape of my life.  My immune system is working much better than it has in many years.  I am enjoying good health and not taking all of the medications I used to take. I suffered from fibromyalgia for over 7 years, and I was diagnosed with heel spurs 3½ years ago. It started on my heels and then it went to my hip. This condition affected every aspect of my life. It made me tired and made it difficult to care for a child and keep up the household. The pain and fatigue affected my work and socializing with friends and family. The pain was too much and I could not walk. I was tired all the time.

I went to the medical doctors and they did nerve testing and x-rays. They found large heel spurs on my left and right foot. They gave me cortisone shots which ultimately did not help me and I was in pain and had difficulty walking. There were no results from the cortisone shots.

On June 23, 2006, I came to the Agape Acupuncture, Inc. with the encouragement of my sister. I was interested in learning about natural medicine, but I have never tried it. I wanted to be alleviated of the constant pain and I hoped to be able to walk normally again without pain. I began receiving acupuncture treatments and taking herbal medicine.

The treatment results are fantastic. I wish I had known about it years ago. I began feeling better 6 weeks into the treatments. I have no more hip pain and I am able to walk without pain and stand up straight. I have increased energy and I am able to be like others and be normal again.

At 8 years old, I was diagnosed with Juvenile Rheumatoid Arthritis (later Ankylosing Spondylitis), and for the next 10 years I was in and out of hospitals, always on different medications. These were some of the most trying times in my life. But the next 20 years or so I seemed to stabilize and was able to deal and “adapt” with my condition. About 2 years ago, however, it came back – with a vengeance! Without warning, my left knee blew up like a balloon! My lower back became stiff and painful, my ankles swelled up and I was laid up in bed for a whole month! I would eventually miss three months of work! It was like being a child again.

Once the drug doctors stabilized me, they put me on Indocin, then Plaquenil, but when I started reading about these drugs I realized that they were doing more harm than good! (Since then I have suffered damage to my left eye as a result.) Then in May 2004, I developed a whole new problem: my groin. I had never experienced pain in that area before and it was devastating! I got so desperate for relief I started taking Vioxx. But just when I was at one of the lowest times of my life, God brought me to the Agape Acupuncture, Inc.. I couldn’t believe how different and “opposite” it was from a drug doctor’s office. I figured the Lord brought me here for a reason so I decided (“reluctantly”) to try it. (I said “reluctantly” because everything was foreign to me: the acupuncture, teas, supplements, diet, etc.)

After 2 weeks, however, I noticed improvement. 2 weeks after that I improved even more. With each treatment the pain subsided, and with a new diet (a miracle that God could change me from a carnivore to a vegetarian) and the drugs out of my system I could literally feel my body getting healthier. 3 months after my initial exam, the pain and discomfort were virtually non-existent. All my internal organs and systems, which had been working overtime (because of a steady diet of Del Taco and Carl’s Jr.) improved dramatically – many in the normal range. It’s been almost 6 months now and the pain is no more. My energy is way up and life is looking brighter and healthier. I also know that this is not a temporary “fix” like drugs are, because the “cause” is being treated not the “symptom”.

I thank God for bringing me here and for equipping and using Dr. Janet and Dr. Kevin in such a mighty way. They have been a huge blessing in my life. They are caring, compassionate people with a wonderful staff who make me feel at home every time I walk through the doors of the Agape Acupuncture, Inc. If you are “reluctant” about getting started with treatment like I was, just remember this: You’re here for a reason too, and reading this is no accident. Health is a choice. Choose wisely.
