On December 20, 2011, I was diagnosed with Stage 4 Lung Cancer, and it spread to my lymphoid and bones. I was living a healthy life - never smoked, drank, or did drugs, so this was unexpected. My illness made me stressed out and tired, and I was unable to get good rest. I was in denial at first but then I began to put myself back together and look for a solution. I had coughing that never went away, couldn’t exercise, and would be out of breath easily. I went on a medical leave from work. It really put me down and I had less interaction socially. I had radiation for my bones, genetic testing and followed a nutrition doctor. I started chemotherapy February 2012 – August 2013, which left me fatigued, weak and my taste buds were bad.

My Summer Internship Experience (2016)

Ever since I was a little girl, I had always wanted to do something in the medical field. My mom said that I played pretend-doctor and pretended to take vitals at home with a little toy medical kit. As I grew up, my idea of what I wanted to be when I was older changed numerous times. From wanting to be a princess to a mermaid (which I still want to be) an actress and fashion designer, the one career idea that persevered was a position in the medical field. I changed my mind over and over be saying, "I want to be a doctor.... Well, actually, a vet... Maybe a pediatrician." I've had plenty of time to consider my options, but I still haven't decided exactly what I'm going for. I'm deciding between a NICU nurse or a NICU doctor at CHOC. As you can see, either way I want to be in the NICU at CHOC. With the recent development of taking the idea of a career in the medical field more seriously, I gathered my courage to ask a couple at my church about a possible internship position at their clinic. That couple was Dr. Yeh and Dr. Huang, who were generous enough to answer yes, allowing me to become a part of their crew and work alongside their staff to learn as much about the medical field that I could.

A few weeks before I turned 15, I began working at Agape Acupuncture. The staff was super nice and welcomed me to the team warmly. I have to admit, I was surprised when I saw that they made me my very own time card so I could clock myself in and out. Right after my first official day on the job, they had me working in the front, training me along the way; shortly after was making teas. The teas were pretty easy; measure the herbs correctly and put them in the bags for the patient. It wasn't long after I started to get the hang of things that they added scanning charts to my list of assignments. Learning that wasn't very hard either so I continued to scan, and scan, and scan, and scan... I thought the pile of charts would never end. Scanning was fun, but even when you do a fun thing, your brain starts to get bored of doing it over and over repeatedly. They allowed me a break by teaching me about other things to do around the office like organizing the herbs, putting testimonial packets together, and any other work that needed to be done. Between all the tasks that I was permitted to do, they kept me pretty busy. Cristina, one of the staff members, was appointed as my main trainer (although training me was a team effort), so I spent most of my time with her and shadowing how she did more office type stuff. She and I got along really well from the start. We often helped each other to complete tasks and I think we made a good team. I got along with every other staff member in the office too, but because I wasn't by their side 15 hours a week, I didn't get a chance to get to know them as I could.

Next, I began training on how to take a patient's vitals. It was a little tricky at first, learning how to take blood pressure, but I eventually got the hang of it. But my main station was the scanning. The many hours on end of scanning made me an expert. I could probably train people on how to scan because I knew almost everything about it (lol). Even when I had seemed to run out of tasks, I always found more things to do. Because of my age, I wasn't allowed to do a few things in thee office such ass work in medical with the patients, but I was in the medical environment and everyday, I was learning. I received many wonderful compliments from the doctors and my fellow co-workers. I had only been working for a few weeks when the doctors brought up the offer that I might be able to be employed when I turned 17. As you can imagine, I was eager for the next 2 years to come and pass quickly. But then, a new opportunity arose... They wanted to hire me immediately following the close of my internship! I accepted the position and was excited to begin work as an official employee.

When you look as young and short as me, gaining patients trust can be hard. I was instructed to smile and greet patients as they entered and exited the clinic, so that's what I did to everyone who came in. I could tell by the improvement in accepting my greeting that the patients were beginning to feel more comfortable with me. Many of the patients would actually stop and converse with me for a bit; I tried to be as friendly and polite as I could.   

As my time in the office as an intern came to a close, I reflected back on how far I had come in knowledge of how a medical office is run, comfortability in the people I work with, and how much my work ethic improved. It's amazing how many things can change and happen in just a short few months. This truly has been an incredible experience and I'm so grateful for it. I look forward to continue working here and learning more about the medical field.

On May 2015, I started having anxiety and Panic attacks, depression, heart palpitation, shortness of breath, extreme fatigue, brain fog, lightheaded. I would wake up 3 times at night with heart palpitation. One day I was having lunch at work and I began to have heart palpitation, I began to panic thinking that might have a heart attack. I called 911 and the paramedics came. They told me that my heart is fine I would need to see my doctor. My doctor prescribed me medication, but the side effects made my anxiety worse. I have suffered with liver inflammation and heart problems for 11 eleven years, and I only took drug medicines from the doctors. In 2001, I was also diagnosed with diabetes. I didn’t know how to control myself and didn’t know if I would survive. I wanted to be healed from the illnesses. The main problem was the heart and I couldn’t have surgery because of the inflammation of the liver. I had Hepatitis C and didn’t want to take the risk of contaminating my organs. I had low energy, my body’s defense was low (immune system) and I couldn’t sleep. I needed more oxygen because I couldn’t breath. I couldn’t go out and have a normal life, nor could I take a shower by myself. I had SOB (shortness of breath) so I couldn’t have a conversation and I couldn’t walk far.

I took 15 medications every day. After visiting a lot of MDs, having exams and taking drug medicines – none of them helped. There was no therapy for my situation on medication. The medicine was for the heart and high blood pressure (HBP). None of the medications helped at all and I needed to have heart surgery but couldn’t. I began treatment with the Cardiologists from June 2010 to December 2010 with no results, and my condition was getting worse.

I started treatments with Natural Medicine at Agape Acupuncture in June, 2010 with acupuncture, herbal medicine and a food guide. My aunt, T.R., referred me here. I wasn’t a believer in natural medicine before coming here, but I had a lot of faith and was positive. I wanted to get well so I could have my surgery. I was diagnosed with body wide hives and it progressed over time. I always thought I was relatively healthy and when it happened it shook up my life and made the simplest things really hard. My Name is Austin. I am 19 years old and I was diagnosed with Ulcerative Colitis in 2006 when I was 12 years old. Ulcerative Colitis (UC) is an Auto-Immune Disease that attacks the colon and causes severe diarrhea and bleeding.

My Mom and Dad took me to many specialist doctors and all of them said that there is no cure for UC and they all wanted get me on Drugs! One doctor even recommended to have my colon removed. Yes – at 12 years old.

After my colonoscopy and diagnosis I ended up on medical steroids.  The side effects of steroids are horrible (Major Face Swelling, acne, weight gain, etc..) My Dad saw an article in the paper for Natural Medicine and made an appointment for me to see Dr. Huang. I can’t imagine my life without natural medicine. The medical staff was reassuring, friendly, kind and supportive. I didn’t expect these results but I feel very blessed by them. My name is Mishell and my husband and I have had fertility issues for many years. I have Endometriosis alongside some ovulation issues. I have had an Endometrioma in the past which ultimately led to having an ectopic pregnancy. This resulted in removal of my left fallopian tube.

We later resorted to IVF in hopes of getting pregnant once and for all. The first two attempts were fresh cycles but resulted in negative pregnancy tests. I came to Agape acupuncture in April 2013 after years of suffering with a weak immune system and finally being told by my physician that my immune system was simply weakened and that there was really nothing they could do about it.  I have dealt with a weak immune system for most of my life, suffering from colds and sinus infections as far back as I can remember, but this time it was much more serious.  I had been sick for over 3 months and had lost approximately 30 lbs.  I had a trip planned to Rwanda scheduled for May 24, 2013, but could not receive the recommended immunizations needed because I was too sick and on antibiotics. Dr. Kevin brought me in and looked over my medical records and asked many questions. He determined that my physicians’ were correct, but in stark contrast to my current physicians he was sure I could be healed.  With great confidence he informed me that God was going to heal me and that I would be able to go on the trip to Rwanda.  He prayed for me, which gave me great confidence and I began a treatment which included diet changes, herbal medicine regime and acupuncture treatment.  Within two weeks I was already seeing improved health, and in a couple of months I was on my way to Rwanda.

When I was 20 years old I had Vertigo for one week. After 50 years the Vertigo has come back. Now that I am 70 years old, the Vertigo came for 3 weeks but very strong. 30 years ago I also started taking medicine for High Blood Pressure (HBP). Sometimes my head was very hot and I was sweating. During the day for a few hours, I couldn’t do anything and I just wanted to sleep. I also couldn’t exercise. With the Vertigo and HBP, I couldn’t stand up from the bed for 4 days because I was dizzy and I had headache from HBP. When I tried to find medicine for the Vertigo the doctors never offer anything but exercise for my head. They taught me how to move my head and neck. They gave me medicine for HBP and recommendations for how to relax for my head so the Vertigo don’t come back. I was taking Atenolol 50 mg for High Blood Pressure and the side effects were constipation. I still take medicine for High Blood Pressure but less dosage. The treatments the doctors recommended weren’t healing the Vertigo but it was less and made me more relaxed.

The first time I came here was September 21, 2013. A Chiropractor who use to come here referred me. I hoped to get healing from the Vertigo. My family was supportive and they had faith for my healing. The clinic is very clean and in order. I never tried Acupuncture but in Mexico, they always try to heal people with the herbs. I received Acupuncture and herbal medicine at Agape Acupuncture. The needles doctor used do not hurt and the herbs are easy to take. Since the second treatment I feel better. Since 2009, I was diagnosed with Hepatitis (Hemolytic). When I saw my body and my eyes yellow, I was scared. The yellow eyes were from the medication, Izoniazid. I was urinating orange in my blood work. After I took the medication I had a condition where my red blood cells were elevated. For half a year I couldn’t go to work for this condition. I felt weak and I couldn’t go to social gatherings. I had anxiety and would forgot things. When listening to something I couldn’t comprehend what they were saying. I was in the hospital for 8 days and they did a biopsy on the liver. They gave me pedialyte for adults and I was on modern medicine treatments from 2009-2012. The redness and itching stopped for a short time while taking the medication but they came back. The doctors prescribed medications but there was no healing for me.

My first day at Agape Acupuncture was in July 2012. Everybody is nice! Happy! God recommended it to me because I was passing by the clinic and I decided to come in. I wanted healing because I have a lot of faith. When I came here I felt peaceful. I believed in natural medicine since I was a child I saw my grandma using herbs for healing. My family and friends were supportive of me but they don’t believe in natural medicine but now are good because I am healing and they know I’m healing. The itching spots don’t come anymore. After 1 week everything disappeared and I felt more peaceful and more energy. I work more hard. I feel better. No more itching and I’m sleeping better! I was diagnosed with Premature Ovarian Failure in January 2011. My FSH (Follicle-Stimulating Hormone) was too high at 108. When I first found out, I was crying and felt frustrated with no hope. The doctors didn’t explain why. I couldn’t concentrate or work and had a lot of stress. I didn’t want to socialize. I’m a realtor and I couldn’t socialize with my clients, and this is part of my job. It was so depressing. I didn’t give quality time to my kids or friends because I was so depressed. I had 2 ultrasounds. The first doctor said my ovaries were so small and it seemed like I wouldn’t have any periods. I had a couple of follicles but it wasn’t enough. The second doctor, who did an ultrasound, didn’t see any follicles. My FSH was very high and it wasn’t going down. The only resources were egg donors. I was offered donor information with a book of women with eye color, hair color and was asked to describe how I wanted my child to look. I cried, got up and left. I felt hopeless. One of the doctors said, “I don’t want to give you hope because you are pre-menopausal.” I didn’t have any menopause symptoms. I needed to go to a place where they could give us hope because the doctors I saw couldn’t help.

I searched the internet for some sort of hope. No one gave us hope and everyone we went to were negative.  I found the Natural Medicine Center website and one of Dr. Huang’s mottos are, “God gives you herbs.” It caught my attention. I wasn’t into natural medicine before but I decided to give it a try. Other doctors haven’t given me hope. I started coming to Natural Medicine Center on February 11, 2011 and received acupuncture and herbs. I wanted to lower my FSH and get pregnant, have a baby and be healed from Premature Ovarian Failure. We were surprised and amazed about what natural medicine can do. He’s been to every treatment with me and has been very supportive. The clinic felt homey. I like it! I love it! Dr. Huang is a Christian and being asked to pray makes a tremendous difference in our lives. After my 3rd treatment, I was more energetic. My periods are still adjusting but they became better. I enjoy my job more and its less complicated. I can concentrate and interact more with my kids! I am not frustrated anymore. I wasn’t able to eat before and now I have more appetite. I suffered from fibromyalgia for over 7 years, and I was diagnosed with heel spurs 3½ years ago. It started on my heels and then it went to my hip. This condition affected every aspect of my life. When I fist came to Agape Acupuncture, Inc. I had been battling with extreme pain due to being diagnosed with bulging discs in my back, shoulder injuries, ulnar nerve problems to my elbows and carpal tunnel.  I had surgery on my right shoulder with not much success I was told I needed surgery to my left shoulder, carpal tunnel surgery to both wrists and possible back surgery. I was having extreme pain where I was taking medication for pain, nerve pain pills, sleeping pills, anti-inflammatory meds, etc. I had difficulty walking, due to sciatic nerve pain which radiated down to my calf.  I walked with a limp with my left foot turned out. The only way I was somewhat comfortable walking was with Z-coil shoes, which were shoes that had a spring in them that helped to absorb the impact. I could not sit for very long.  I could not let anyone touch me as it was extremely painful. I had such extreme fatigue I could not get out of bed for very long without being exhausted again. I was not able to work for 5 years I wasn't able to live a normal life. I went through treatment with western medicine doctors with very little to no relief.

I was at my wits end and looking for other options for treatment, not wanting to go through another surgery.  I had heard about acupuncture and people having good success. My husband researched to find an acupuncture doctor and found Dr. Huang. After reviewing Dr. Huang's website and seeing Dr. Huang was a believer in Christ and didn't just do acupuncture but natural medicine, we were excited. We had always believed in natural medicine and knew it worked.  

I started coming to Dr. Huang in 2007 and found out I had fibromyalgia, Epstein Bar and a hormone imbalance. I also realized I had damaged my liver due to all the pain meds. After a few months of treatment with Dr. Huang I was able to start reducing my pain meds. Several months later I was able to sit and walk without much pain.  I advised my orthopedic doctor what I was doing and he referred me to a pain management doctor for help in getting off the pain meds. I am a strong believer in Jesus Christ and knew with God's help I could get off the pain meds.  Praise God He helped me to do just that!  

It has been an up hill battle at times to maintain my energy and eliminate my pain and return to a normal life, however after much prayer and Dr. Huang's anointing from God and wisdom in natural medicine and acupuncture I am now living a full life. I am working full time and now have my energy back. I praise God for leading me and my husband to Dr. Huang. It is such a blessing to come to the office for treatment and be able to share with Dr. Huang all that God is doing in my life with healing and blessing me with business. I tell everyone about Dr. Huang and have referred several friends and family members who have and continue to benefit from Dr. Huang's treatment. I believe God intended for our bodies to be treated with the things from this earth not chemicals that mask the problem and harm our bodies.

For 10 years, since my sophomore year in high school, I suffered from Temporomandibular Joint (TMJ) Syndrome. I really did not know what it was, and the only way to fix it was by surgery. I was scared and upset. In my junior year of high school, I had the surgery. Two years later, I had another surgery. I had to sleep with a mouth guard, and I would wake up in the morning with a sore jaw and neck. After each surgery, I could not eat for 2 weeks and the recovery was long.

This condition was very painful, and I also had bad headaches as a result of this. My jaw would pop open if I was talking or opening my mouth. The surgeries did not work, and the doctors wanted to do a 3rd surgery, but I refused. The doctors prescribed pain pills and anti-inflammatory medications, which I took. I had massage therapy and I went for physical therapy for 3 months. It was fine for a couple of months, but it came back – the snapping of my jaw and headaches came back. The treatments did not work and did not take care of the problem.

On October 29, 2004, I came to the Agape Acupuncture, Inc. because I wanted to stop my jaw from snapping and to stop the pain. It seemed like a good idea, the office was close to my work. I had acupuncture, herbal medicine and supplements. The treatments are painless, relaxing and help to clear the mind.

I started to feel better after the 1st week of treatments. I have no more headaches, I sleep better, I’m healthier, and I have more energy. I don’t sleep with the night guard or clench my teeth tight anymore. It’s back to normal. The staff is awesome, friendly, supportive and willing to help. I am really excited and happy to find a solution. I am amazed at results like this, and I would refer others for any type of problem. Two surgeries could not do what natural medicine did!

At 8 years old, I was diagnosed with Juvenile Rheumatoid Arthritis (later Ankylosing Spondylitis), and for the next 10 years I was in and out of hospitals, always on different medications. These were some of the most trying times in my life. But the next 20 years or so I seemed to stabilize and was able to deal and “adapt” with my condition. About 2 years ago, however, it came back – with a vengeance! Without warning, my left knee blew up like a balloon! My lower back became stiff and painful, my ankles swelled up and I was laid up in bed for a whole month! I would eventually miss three months of work! It was like being a child again.

Once the drug doctors stabilized me, they put me on Indocin, then Plaquenil, but when I started reading about these drugs I realized that they were doing more harm than good! (Since then I have suffered damage to my left eye as a result.) Then in May 2004, I developed a whole new problem: my groin. I had never experienced pain in that area before and it was devastating! I got so desperate for relief I started taking Vioxx. But just when I was at one of the lowest times of my life, God brought me to the Agape Acupuncture, Inc.. I couldn’t believe how different and “opposite” it was from a drug doctor’s office. I figured the Lord brought me here for a reason so I decided (“reluctantly”) to try it. (I said “reluctantly” because everything was foreign to me: the acupuncture, teas, supplements, diet, etc.)

After 2 weeks, however, I noticed improvement. 2 weeks after that I improved even more. With each treatment the pain subsided, and with a new diet (a miracle that God could change me from a carnivore to a vegetarian) and the drugs out of my system I could literally feel my body getting healthier. 3 months after my initial exam, the pain and discomfort were virtually non-existent. All my internal organs and systems, which had been working overtime (because of a steady diet of Del Taco and Carl’s Jr.) improved dramatically – many in the normal range. It’s been almost 6 months now and the pain is no more. My energy is way up and life is looking brighter and healthier. I also know that this is not a temporary “fix” like drugs are, because the “cause” is being treated not the “symptom”.

I thank God for bringing me here and for equipping and using Dr. Janet and Dr. Kevin in such a mighty way. They have been a huge blessing in my life. They are caring, compassionate people with a wonderful staff who make me feel at home every time I walk through the doors of the Agape Acupuncture, Inc. I suffered from neck and back pains from a car accident. I could not turn my neck and I had a constant ache. I could not do laundry, drive, or go to the store. I was miserable. For 16 years, I suffered from fibromyalgia, chronic fatigue and chronic muscle, joint and nerve pain. I also had severe migraines. 6 months ago, it was discovered that I had spinal problems and the doctor wanted to put a screw between my vertebrae and my nerves would be severed. I had muscle spasms and restricted movement, and I was always extra careful on everything that required movement. I could not exercise.

Since 1995, I have had problems with my liver and gallbladder. I had gallbladder stones, and I was told by the surgeon that my gallbladder needed to be removed.
